Shell Yeah! Benefit Series Brings Indigo Girls and Linda Perry to the Overton Park Shell

Presented by Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi, The Overton Park Shell’s annual ticketed Shell Yeah! Benefit Series will feature music legends the Indigo Girls and Linda Perry on September 29. Tickets on sale May 22nd.

As concert season continues, the Overton Park Shell will play host to music legends from near and far to hallmark the 90th anniversary of the historic stage. Presented by Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi, The 2nd Shell Yeah! Benefit Series ticketed show of 2026 will feature the Indigo Girls and Linda Perry on September 29th—in partnership with Mid-South Pride.

From Thursday, September 10th through Sunday, September 13th, the Overton Park Shell will present a full weekend of exciting programming—inviting Memphians to commemorate 90 years of music shared, memories made, and milestones reached at the historic, backyard venue that was built in 1936

Empowered by Orion Financial, the 90th “Shell-ebration” will serve as an invitation for visitors to embark on a journey through iconic Shell-eras as local artists, and institutions, pay homage to past performances—and revive notable gatherings that cemented the mission to make the Overton Park Shell an accessible space for all to experience esteemed entertainment and fruitful fellowship.

The “shell-ebratory” events kick-off Thursday, September 10th, with a ticketed concert featuring “the architect of Memphis soul sound”—famed frontman, Booker T. Jones of Stax Records house band Booker T. & The M.G.’s. Presented by Mempho Presents, all proceeds from this Shell Yeah! Benefit Series showcase directly support future programming, and preservation efforts. 

Friday, September 11th through Sunday, September 13th, the birthday festivities will be free to the public as new partnerships pave way for uniquely-Memphis programming.

5 FRIDAYS OF JAZZ HALLMARKS MILESTONE OF MUSIC PROGRAMMING

For the 10th year in a row, the coolest cats in town will return to Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library to convert the quiet hall into a listening lab as Shell on Wheels presents 5 Fridays of Jazz.

For the 10th year in a row, the coolest cats in town will return to Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library to convert the quiet hall into a listening lab as Shell on Wheels presents 5 Fridays of Jazz. In partnership with the Memphis Library Foundation, Memphis Public Libraries, and the City of Memphis, every Friday from February 27th until March 27th, will feature unique sounds, satisfying sips, snacks, and more. 

“Our continued partnership with the Memphis Library Foundation allows us to build community outside of the historic stage,” said Yolanda Kelly, Shell on Wheels Outreach Manager. “We're excited to see familiar faces, and connect with new entertainers, as we spotlight local musicians, and celebrate Memphis’ rich music history.”

To complement the rotating lineup of local talent, tasty food and beverages will be available for purchase, provided by Jus Enuff Concessions and Kaye’s Pints and Scoops. 

The line-up is as follows:

  • February 27, 2026 - Joyce Cobb ft. Rhodes Jazz Ensemble

  • March 6, 2026 - Central High School Jazz Band 

  • March 13, 2026 - The Soul Ingredient

  • March 20, 2026 - D’Monet

  • March 27, 2026 - The Galaxy's Edge Quintet

Performances will run for 90 minutes, starting at 6:30PM and concluding at 8PM.

As the Overton Park Shell embarks on its 90th anniversary, Shell on Wheels is hitting the road to turn up the volume across the community. Stay tuned for more festivities to come at the historic venue, and in a neighborhood near you.
