building the future of the overton park shell
As the Shell looks toward its next 90 years, the Terry Lynch Artist Lounge reflects a commitment to preserving what makes this place special while investing in the people who bring it to life.
Follow along as we share construction updates, milestones, and opportunities to support this transformational project.
about the project
Since opening in 1936, the Overton Park Shell has welcomed audiences and artists to one of Memphis' most beloved cultural landmarks. While the venue has evolved over the decades, the backstage spaces supporting performers were never designed for the needs of modern touring artists.
The Terry Lynch Artist Lounge was envisioned as part of a long-term effort to preserve and strengthen the Shell for future generations. The new facility will provide dedicated spaces that allow artists and their crews to prepare, rest, and recharge while creating a world-class experience for festivals, weddings, special events, and year-round programming.
Beyond supporting performers, the Artist Lounge will create new opportunities for private events, gatherings, and other revenue-generating activities that help sustain the Shell's mission. Together, these improvements ensure the Overton Park Shell remains a vibrant destination for artists, audiences, and the Memphis community for decades to come.

Terry & Cathy Lynch
Terry Lynch loved the Overton Park Shell not simply because of what it was, but because of what it could become. A longtime supporter and board member, Terry believed deeply in the power of music, the arts, and community, and he challenged the organization to think boldly about the future. He understood that preserving the Shell's legacy meant more than restoration — it meant ensuring the venue could continue to inspire audiences, support artists, and serve Memphis for generations to come. His leadership, generosity, and vision helped shape the Shell's evolution while honoring its historic character. Named in his honor, the Terry Lynch Artist Lounge stands as a lasting tribute to his belief that preserving history means preparing for the future.
