ARTS ADVOCACY IS CRUCIAL TO THE SUCCESS OF THE OVERTON PARK SHELL

Check out some of the ways that you can help advocate for the arts:

SPECIALTY LICENSE PLATES

Thanks to the work of the Tennessee Arts Commission, 70% of state arts funding comes from the sale of arts and collegiate license plates.

Tennessee Arts Commission funds projects in every county in the state and more than 800+ grants last year.

VISIT OUR ARTS ADVOCACY BOOTH

Every Friday during our Free Concert Series at the top of our hill you can visit the Art Matters Tent at the Shell. Visit with a local arts organization and learn more about the importance of the arts in our community. The Shell is one of countless organizations to receive support from Tennessee Art Commission and ArtsMemphis and we are a proud member of Tennesseans for the Arts.

Federal support of the arts is critical.

The NEA provided about $1.45 Million to Tennessee organizations including support for the Tennessee Arts Commission which flows into Shelby County to help educate children, employ artists, and generate economic activity.

TELL YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS

Elected officials need to hear why art matters from their constituents. Use your voice through the power of social media to share why you support the arts, then tag representatives. Arts benefit all people, no matter their political parties, and it is important to share what matters to you with your elected officials at every level of government.

ARTS MOBILIZATION CENTER

With threats to eliminate national funding of the National Endowment for the Arts, it is important to remain vigilant in advocating for the NEA and staying informed about budget updates. Americans for the Arts provides many resources to receive alerts and calls to action when arts funding is threatened through their Arts Mobilization Center.
