About the Artist:
Mak Ro is a duo of Filipino-American cousins based in Memphis, TN: Eric Makapugay (Multi-Instrumentalist/Producer/Songwriter) and Kristoffer Ruaro (Singer/Producer/Songwriter).
The duo sparked from a seemingly inconsequential guitar riff Eric improvised during a jam session, resulting in the first song they ever wrote together, “Elevator.” From that point on, collaboration has effortlessly flowed between the two, having a familial chemistry that can only be described as natural. Guided by their instincts, they have fearlessly forged their distinctive identity, demonstrating that their music is destined to exist. Their shared interest in R&B music bridges the gap between their individual tastes in pop and rock, creating a unique fusion of different genres.
Eric builds a sonic world in which Kristoffer carves out meaningful stories. As Filipino-Americans and for Kristoffer, a queer artist, Mak Ro conveys their perspectives through their storytelling, making their mark not only in their hometown of Memphis, TN, but also on a broader international stage.
Since breaking onto the scene in 2019, they've independently released 15 singles and a 4-track EP, all self-produced, recorded, and written. Most recently, Mak Ro released their highly anticipated debut album, Love in the Dark, in the fall of 2024.
