In celebration of our 85th Anniversary, we're looking back at all the ways the Shell has been an integral part of the Memphis community over the years, and dreaming up how we can stay "rooted in community" for the next 85 and beyond.
For 5 years, during the 1960's, the Shell was home to the historic Country Blues Festival, which brought together regional and local country and blues musicians - black and white, young and old, veteran and emerging musicians. The power of music unified our community at our Shell! We're excited to announce that the reimagined festival is coming back this fall! On Thursday, October 7th, the Country Blues Festival will begin with a ticketed concert with legendary blues musicians, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Cedric Burnside, and Christone "Kingfish" Ingram! The next night, October 8th, as a part of our ORION FREE CONCERT SERIES, the Country Blues Festival continues, FOR FREE, with Clarksdale native, Blind Mississippi Morris, a legend in his own right. We're so excited to be home to the Country Blues Festival once again, and look forward to celebrating our history for years to come!
